“West Bengal Must Be Freed From Jungle Raj,” Says PM Modi, Targets TMC at Ranaghat Rally

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal, saying the state must be “freed from jungle raj” to achieve rapid development. Addressing a public gathering at Taherpur Netaji Park in Ranaghat via video conferencing, PM Modi compared the political situation in Bengal with Bihar and urged voters to give the BJP a chance.

The Prime Minister addressed the rally virtually after poor visibility prevented his helicopter from landing at the Taherpur helipad, forcing it to return to Kolkata airport.

PM Modi Draws Parallel With Bihar, Attacks ‘Jungle Raj’

Referring to Bihar’s political shift, PM Modi said the state had rejected “jungle raj” and rewarded development-focused governance.

“Today the country wants rapid development. Bihar once again gave the NDA government a massive mandate for development. Bihar rejected the rule of jungle raj with one resounding voice. Now we have to get rid of the jungle raj in West Bengal as well,” he said.

He added that Bihar’s continued support for the BJP-NDA even after 20 years reflected people’s trust in development-driven politics.

Calls for BJP’s ‘Double-Engine Government’ in Bengal

Reiterating the BJP’s long-standing pitch, PM Modi called for a double-engine government in West Bengal, stating that several development projects worth crores remain stalled due to political obstruction.

“We want a BJP double-engine government in Bengal that can restore the lost glory of the state. Even today, development projects worth crores of rupees are stalled,” he said.

He maintained that political opposition was acceptable, but blocking development was not.

“You may oppose Modi or the BJP, but do not obstruct the development of Bengal. Do not deprive the people of their rights or shatter their dreams,” the Prime Minister said, appealing to voters.

Accuses TMC of Shielding Infiltrators

PM Modi also accused the Trinamool Congress of protecting illegal infiltrators, alleging that the party was opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise to safeguard them.

“In Bengal, the TMC raises slogans of ‘Go Back Modi’ instead of saying ‘Go Back Ghuspaithiye’. Those infiltrators whose objective is to take over Bengal are dear to the TMC. That is why the party is opposing the SIR,” he alleged.

Centre Focused on Inclusive Development, Says PM

Highlighting the Centre’s commitment to inclusive growth, PM Modi said the Union government was working to ensure development reached even the most neglected regions of West Bengal.

“Our government’s efforts are aimed at developing every corner of West Bengal that has been deprived for a long time,” he said.

PM Modi Inaugurates Projects Worth ₹3,200 Crore

During the event, PM Modi also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for multiple infrastructure projects worth ₹3,200 crore. Key projects include:

  • A 66.7 km four-lane stretch of the Barajaguli–Krishnanagar section of NH-34
  • Foundation stone for the four-laning of the Barasat–Barajaguli section of NH-34

These projects are expected to significantly improve road connectivity between Kolkata and Siliguri, boosting trade and mobility in the region.
