Two Nurses Critical After Suspected Contaminated Cold Drink in Maharashtra’s Dharashiv; FDA Seizes Stock Meant for Wari Devotees
Dharashiv: Days after panic over alleged poisonous capsules in Mumbai, Maharashtra has witnessed another suspected contamination scare. Two nurses in Dharashiv district fell seriously ill after consuming a cold drink believed to be contaminated. The beverages were reportedly meant to be distributed to devotees during the annual Wari pilgrimage.
The incident occurred in Kalamb town of Dharashiv district, where the two nurses Pooja Jadhav and Pallavi Saudagar allegedly suffered severe food poisoning after drinking the beverage.
According to officials, Pooja Jadhav is undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Galaxy Hospital in Latur, while Pallavi Saudagar has been admitted to a hospital in Ambajogai. Both are reported to be in critical condition.
Cold Drinks Meant for Wari Devotees
Authorities said the cold drinks were intended to be distributed as refreshments to devotees participating in the Gajanan Maharaj Palkhi procession from Shegaon during the annual Wari pilgrimage.
The suspected contamination was detected before the beverages could be served to devotees, potentially averting a larger public health crisis.
FDA Seizes Beverage Stock
Following the incident, officials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) rushed to the spot and seized the entire stock of cold drinks that was scheduled for distribution during the pilgrimage.
Police personnel and staff from the government hospital also reached the location, and an investigation has been launched to determine the source of the beverages and identify those responsible for arranging their distribution.
Authorities are awaiting laboratory test reports to ascertain whether the cold drink was contaminated and to determine the exact cause of the suspected food poisoning.
The investigation is underway, and officials have urged the public not to speculate until the forensic and food safety analysis is completed.
