Three Youths Drown While Taking Selfie at Jadhavwadi Dam in Pune

Mumbai: A picnic outing turned tragic on Friday after three young men drowned in the backwaters of Jadhavwadi dam near Navalakh Umbre village in Maval tehsil of Pune district.
According to police, the incident occurred around 3 pm when a group of six friends from Bhosari had visited the scenic spot for a day outing. The victims have been identified as Ajay Garude, Santosh Edke and Aniket Pawar.
Preliminary investigations suggest the tragedy unfolded while the group was attempting to take a selfie near the water. Four of the friends had stepped into what appeared to be knee-deep water and stood close together with their arms around each other.
However, one of them reportedly slipped into a deeper section of the dam. As the group was tightly linked, the others lost their balance and fell into the water in quick succession.
A fifth friend, who was standing at a short distance, witnessed the incident and rushed to help. He managed to rescue one of the men, but the remaining three disappeared underwater before assistance could arrive.
Following the incident, multiple rescue teams, including members of local organisations, the National Disaster Response Force, and police personnel, launched an extensive search operation. After a challenging effort, the bodies of the three victims were recovered from the dam.
Police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation. Initial findings indicate that the deaths were accidental.
The incident has left the victims’ families and friends in deep shock and serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with venturing close to water bodies, especially while taking selfies.
