Mumbai: Popular television actress Simple Kaul, best known for her role as Gulabo in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and her performance in the hit comedy series Shararat, recently opened up about navigating the entertainment industry as a newcomer. In a candid interview, the actress reflected on her early career choices, explaining how setting firm boundaries protected her from predatory behavior like the casting couch.

Standing Firm Against Inappropriate Requests

Speaking to The Times of India, Kaul shared that she managed to completely avoid casting couch experiences simply because she remained vocal, assertive, and direct about her working terms from day one.

Recalling a specific incident from her early days, Kaul disclosed that a filmmaker had invited her to meet him late in the evening at a hotel. Sensing a potential red flag, she informed him that she would bring her friends along. However, the filmmaker insisted that she come up to his room alone while her companions waited in the lobby.

Kaul refused the offer without hesitation.

“I told him that if he wanted to meet me, we could meet in the hotel lobby,” Kaul recalled, emphasizing that no role or career breakthrough was worth compromising her personal principles or safety.

She added that even if she had agreed to a professional meeting outside a standard office setting, it would have strictly been in the presence of her management or team.
