Shikhar Dhawan Ties the Knot Again! Meet Sophie Shine, the Irish Executive Who Won the Cricketer’s Heart

Mumbai: Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has embarked on a new chapter in his personal life, marrying his long-time partner Sophie Shine in an intimate ceremony on Saturday, 21 February. The private wedding, attended by close friends and family, comes after the couple made their engagement public earlier this year.
Dhawan had confirmed his relationship with Sophie in May 2025, and the two were widely expected to formalise their bond after announcing their engagement on Instagram on 12 January. Their relationship first caught public attention during the 2025 Champions Trophy in Dubai, where the pair were seen together in the stands.
Wedding Glimpses Shared by Chahal
Moments from the ceremony surfaced online when fellow India cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal shared pictures from the celebrations on Instagram, captioning them, “Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai.”
Dhawan looked resplendent in a cream sherwani adorned with delicate floral patterns, while Sophie complemented him in a lehenga featuring a matching floral theme. The coordinated outfits added an elegant touch to the understated yet joyous affair.
A day before the wedding, Sophie had shared photographs from their haldi ceremony, offering fans a glimpse into the couple’s pre-wedding festivities.
Who Is Sophie Shine?
Sophie Shine is an Irish professional currently working as a Second Vice President – Product Consultant at Northern Trust Corporation, a US-based financial services firm. According to her LinkedIn profile, she holds a qualification in Marketing and Management from the Limerick Institute of Technology and completed her schooling at Castleroy College in Ireland.
Reports suggest that Sophie and Dhawan met in the UAE, where she is presently based. Their bond grew over time, with Dhawan subtly hinting at finding love again during a media conclave appearance last year.
A New Beginning After Divorce
This marks Dhawan’s second marriage. The cricketer officially separated from his former wife, Aesha Mukherjee, in October 2023, bringing their 11-year marriage to an end. The couple had tied the knot in 2011. Aesha has two daughters from a previous marriage.
During the divorce proceedings, a Delhi court observed that Dhawan had experienced mental distress and noted claims that he had been kept away from his son, Zoravar, for an extended period. While granting the divorce, the court awarded Dhawan visitation rights and permitted regular video calls but did not grant him permanent custody. Aesha is currently based in Australia.
Fans Celebrate the ‘Gabbar’ Comeback
Fans and former teammates have flooded social media with congratulatory messages for Dhawan, popularly known as “Gabbar” for his aggressive batting style. After navigating a turbulent personal phase, the cricketer appears to have found happiness once again.
As Dhawan begins this new innings off the field, well-wishers are hoping that the former opener’s second marriage brings him stability, joy, and a fresh start in life.
