Punjab Anti-Drug Campaign Completes 500 Days: Bhagwant Mann Says ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ Will Continue Until State Is Drug-Free
Mumbai: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to eradicating drug abuse from the state, stating that the flagship anti-drug campaign, Yudh Nashean Virudh, will continue until Punjab is completely free from the menace of narcotics.
Addressing Village Defence Committee volunteers, Mann highlighted that the campaign has successfully completed 500 days, marking a significant milestone in the state’s ongoing fight against drugs. He said the initiative has evolved into a mass movement with active participation from citizens, local communities, and volunteers across Punjab.
According to the Chief Minister, nearly 70,000 individuals involved in drug smuggling activities have been arrested since the launch of the campaign. He added that more than 1.25 lakh volunteers working through approximately 13,000 villages have played a crucial role in strengthening grassroots efforts against drug abuse.
Mann emphasized that the government’s strategy extends beyond law enforcement. Alongside strict action against smugglers, authorities have focused on rehabilitation, treatment, and awareness programs to help individuals struggling with addiction reintegrate into society with dignity and confidence.
He credited the people of Punjab for supporting both the anti-drug campaign and the Village Defence Committee initiative, describing them as powerful examples of collective action. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that sustained public participation would help eliminate drug-related challenges from the state in the coming years.
Highlighting broader social progress, Mann said Punjab is witnessing a positive transformation in education and public welfare. He noted that the state has recorded strong performances in competitive examinations such as JEE and NEET and has prioritized merit-based recruitment in government services.
The Chief Minister also pointed to improvements in the education sector, stating that Punjab has emerged as one of the country’s leading states in primary and middle-school education. He attributed this achievement to investments in smart classrooms, teacher training, and infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing learning outcomes.
Reiterating his government’s resolve, Mann said the fight against drugs remains a top priority and assured that enforcement measures, rehabilitation programs, and awareness campaigns would continue with full intensity until Punjab achieves the goal of becoming a drug-free state.
