PM Modi Launches ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva’ Campaign, Urges Youth to Lead India’s Fight Against Drug Abuse
Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched the nationwide ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’, calling upon the country’s youth to take a strong stand against substance abuse and contribute towards building a developed India.
Addressing young people virtually during the launch event, PM Modi stressed that drug addiction can provide a temporary sense of pleasure but ultimately destroys careers, relationships and personal growth. He urged the younger generation to stay mentally and physically fit by avoiding all forms of substance abuse.
“Drugs may give a person a temporary high, but they push an entire life and future into decline,” the Prime Minister said, emphasizing that a strong and healthy youth population is essential for achieving the vision of a developed India.
PM Modi Links Drug Abuse to National Security
Highlighting the broader impact of narcotics, Modi said hostile forces often use drug trafficking as a tool to weaken nations. According to him, countries and organizations that wish to harm India understand that the nation’s youth represent its future strength, making them a target through the spread of drugs.
He reiterated that the fight against drug abuse is not only a social responsibility but also a matter of national interest.
Call for Compassion Towards Recovering Addicts
In a significant message, the Prime Minister urged society to change its attitude towards individuals recovering from addiction. He said people who successfully overcome substance abuse should be viewed as fighters rather than being stigmatized.
“Those who come out of addiction deserve respect and support. Society should embrace them and provide them with a second chance to rebuild their lives,” he said.
Modi also encouraged families not to hide cases of addiction due to fear of social judgment. Instead, he advised parents and guardians to maintain open communication with their children and seek professional medical assistance whenever required.
100-Week Nationwide Campaign Begins
The launch of the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’ marks the start of a 100-week public participation movement across the country.
Under the initiative, activities promoting a drug-free lifestyle will be organized every Sunday. These programmes will focus on engaging young people through sports, cultural activities, meditation, spirituality, community service and awareness drives.
The Prime Minister said the campaign aims to transform individual resolutions into a collective national movement.
“The coming 100 Sundays will become 100 powerful steps towards a drug-free India,” he said.
Sports, Culture and Awareness Activities Planned
The nationwide campaign will include a variety of public outreach activities designed to spread awareness about the dangers of addiction. Planned events include:
- Sports competitions and fitness drives
- Walkathons and community rallies
- Meditation and yoga sessions
- Cultural programmes and street plays
- Discussion forums and awareness campaigns
- Art and creative competitions
- Community engagement initiatives
The government hopes these activities will encourage youth participation and create a sustained social movement against substance abuse.
Drug Addiction Hurts Entire Families: PM Modi
Speaking about the emotional toll of addiction, the Prime Minister said substance abuse affects not only the individual but also every member of the family.
He noted that addiction can shatter parents’ dreams, cause emotional pain to siblings and gradually erode the confidence and dignity of families watching their loved ones struggle.
Modi emphasized that social support, yoga, meditation and community participation can play a vital role in helping individuals overcome addiction and return to a healthy lifestyle.
Government Intensifying Crackdown on Drug Networks
The Prime Minister also highlighted the government’s efforts to combat drug trafficking across India. He said law enforcement agencies have significantly increased action against narcotics networks, leading to more arrests and the seizure of drugs worth thousands of crores of rupees.
According to Modi, these actions reflect the government’s commitment to protecting young people and eliminating the drug menace from society.
Nasha Mukt Bharat Vision
Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, said the campaign builds upon the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, which was launched in 2020 with the vision of creating a drug-free nation.
The new youth-focused initiative aims to inspire young Indians to become ambassadors of positive change in their communities and actively contribute to the goal of a healthier, addiction-free India.
With the launch of the 100-week campaign, the government hopes to mobilize citizens, families, educational institutions and communities in a collective effort to create a stronger, healthier and drug-free future for the country.
