Obscene Act Inside Namo Bharat Train Goes Viral, NCRTC Takes Swift Action

Mumbai: A disturbing video showing a young man and woman allegedly engaging in obscene behaviour inside a Namo Bharat semi-high-speed train has gone viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage and prompting immediate action from rail authorities.

According to reports by Jagran.com, the incident was captured by CCTV cameras installed inside the train coach running on the Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor. The footage, now circulating widely online, shows the pair seated inside a mostly empty coach and engaging in inappropriate acts, despite the presence of a few passengers seated nearby.

CCTV Footage Raises Concerns Over Public Decency and Privacy

The viral content reportedly consists of four separate CCTV clips, intensifying public anger over both the incident itself and the misuse of surveillance footage. Officials have clarified that the incident is not recent and took place between Meerut and Modinagar stations, with reports linking the location to Modinagar North. The exact date of the incident has not been officially disclosed.

The circulation of the footage has also raised serious concerns about data security and privacy, as CCTV recordings are meant strictly for safety and monitoring purposes, not public dissemination.

NCRTC Removes Employee, Police Informed

Taking swift action, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) confirmed that the CCTV footage is under review and assured that strict action is being taken against all those responsible.

Namo Bharat’s Chief Public Relations Officer Puneet Vats termed the incident “extremely shameful” and confirmed that the employee who accessed and circulated the footage from the control room has been removed from duty. The matter has also been reported to the police, and further investigation is underway.

Authorities Issue Warning to Passengers

Although the day-to-day operations of the Namo Bharat trains are managed by a contractor, officials stated that regular monitoring mechanisms are in place, and additional vigilance will now be enforced to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Authorities reiterated that obscene behaviour in public places is a punishable offence under Indian law and urged passengers to maintain basic decorum and responsible conduct while travelling on public transport.

NCRTC Reaffirms Commitment to Safe Travel

The NCRTC reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, dignified, and high-quality transport services for commuters. Officials emphasised that public transport is a shared space, where mutual respect and lawful behaviour are essential to ensure a comfortable travel experience for everyone.

As the investigation continues, authorities have assured commuters that necessary safeguards will be strengthened to prevent both misconduct and misuse of surveillance systems in the future.
