‘Never Been So Fearful’: Kyle Jamieson on 15-Year-Old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Mumbai: Kyle Jamieson has admitted that facing teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi brought an unusual sense of pressure during Delhi Capitals’ clash against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League 2026 season.

Reflecting on the on-field duel in Jaipur, the Delhi Capitals pacer said the youngster’s rising reputation and recent performances made the contest particularly intense, despite detailed pre-match planning.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been so fearful of a 15-year-old kid in my life,” Jamieson said in a video released by the IPL. “We had done our planning, and it was nice that it paid off,” he added, referring to his early dismissal of Sooryavanshi.

The moment drew attention not just for the wicket but also for Jamieson’s animated celebration. The IPL later confirmed disciplinary action against the pacer, handing him one demerit point and a warning for breaching Level 1 of the Code of Conduct. He was found to have approached the batter in an aggressive manner following the dismissal, an act that could have provoked a reaction.

The match itself turned into a high-scoring thriller, with Delhi Capitals pulling off a record 226-run chase their highest in IPL history to secure a seven-wicket victory.

A 110-run opening stand between KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka laid the foundation for the chase, before Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma guided the team home with five balls to spare.

Earlier, Riyan Parag (90) and Donovan Ferreira (47*) had powered Rajasthan Royals to a formidable 225/6, while Mitchell Starc picked up three wickets.

The victory marked Delhi Capitals’ fourth win of the season, lifting them to sixth place on the points table, while Rajasthan Royals remained fourth despite the defeat.
