NEET-UG Paper Leak Row: INDIA Bloc MPs Led by Rahul Gandhi March to Gandhi Smriti Amid High Security and House Arrest Claims

Mumbai: Tensions between the Opposition and the Central Government escalated as leaders of the INDIA alliance, spearheaded by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, marched towards Gandhi Smriti at Tees January Marg. The move aimed to express solidarity with students protesting against the alleged NEET-UG paper leaks and to honor aspirants affected by the controversy.

Following a high-level opposition meeting at Rahul Gandhi’s residence, top alliance leaders boarded a dedicated bus to make their way to Tees January Marg. Addressing the issue on social media platform X, Gandhi emphasized that the march was organized to remember students who tragically lost their lives to suicide following the exam leaks and to back those injured during police actions on July 20.

“India’s students are not alone. The entire Opposition stands with them and their demands,” Gandhi stated, condemning the alleged police force used against peaceful student demonstrators.

Heavy police barricades were erected around Rahul Gandhi’s residence as large numbers of Congress workers gathered, prompting law enforcement to issue warnings against unlawful gatherings and request an immediate end to the demonstration.

Claims of House Arrest and Political Backlash

As security forces restricted movement around the perimeter, leaders from the Indian Youth Congress strongly criticized the administration. Uday Bhanu Chib, National President of the Indian Youth Congress, alleged that Rahul Gandhi had been placed under virtual house arrest to silence his support for the student community.

“Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi is raising the voice of the country’s students… Instead of taking action to prevent paper leaks, they have placed him under house arrest. There can be no greater misfortune for the country’s politics and democracy,” Chib remarked.

Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury echoed similar sentiments, maintaining that the opposition would not be intimidated by heavy police deployment.

The opposition strategy session at Gandhi’s residence brought together key leaders across party lines. Attendees included:

Parliament Deadlock Over NEET-UG Controversy

The march comes against the backdrop of an ongoing stalemate in Parliament regarding examination irregularities. The Opposition has demanded the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and insisted on an uninterrupted debate under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha.

While the Centre maintains that it is prepared to discuss all aspects of the NEET issue without precondition, opposition parties continue to insist on accountability and systemic reforms to protect the future of competitive exam aspirants.
