Manolo Marquez Of Spain Appointed Head Coach Of Indian Men’s National Football Team

Mumbai: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has announced the appointment of Manolo Marquez as the new head coach for the Senior Men’s National Team. The decision was made during the Executive Committee meeting held at Football House in New Delhi, chaired by AIFF President Shri Kalyan Chaubey. Prominent AIFF officials and special invitees attended the meeting.

Appointment of Manolo Marquez

Manolo Marquez, who has been coaching in India since 2020, will assume the role of the national team head coach effective immediately. He will continue his responsibilities as the head coach of FC Goa during the 2024-25 season, before transitioning to the national team role on a full-time basis. Marquez brings a wealth of experience, having coached ISL clubs Hyderabad FC and FC Goa, and achieving an ISL Cup win with Hyderabad FC in the 2021-22 season.

AIFF President Shri Kalyan Chaubey expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Mr. Marquez to this important role and are also thankful to FC Goa for their generosity of releasing him for national duty. We look forward to working with Mr. Marquez in the years ahead. The AIFF, FC Goa, and Mr. Marquez will collaborate closely to ensure there is minimal impact between the two jobs and strive to achieve the best possible results for all involved.”

Marquez, aged 55, shared his sentiments on the appointment, “It’s an honour for me to be the National Football Team coach of India, a country I consider my second home. India and its people are something I feel attached to and I feel a part of since I first came to this beautiful country. I want to do my best to bring success to the millions of fans we have. I am very grateful to FC Goa for allowing us the flexibility to help the national team during the coming season while I am still the club’s head coach. I’m grateful to the AIFF for this opportunity and we hope to do great things for football.”

Other Appointments

In addition, the AIFF Executive Committee has appointed Mr. Anilkumar Prabhakaran as the new Secretary General of the AIFF, following the resignation of Mr. Anilkumar from the Executive Committee and all other sub-committees. His appointment is subject to the AIFF’s internal protocols and induction procedures.

The AIFF Executive Committee continues to make strategic decisions aimed at elevating Indian football to new heights, with these appointments marking significant steps towards achieving their goals.
