Mangaluru SAF Constable Arrested on Rape Charge After Advocate’s Complaint

Mumbai: In a shocking case that has raised questions about the conduct of law enforcement personnel, a police constable serving with the Special Action Force (SAF) in Mangaluru has been arrested after being accused of rape on the pretext of marriage.
The complainant, a practising lawyer based in Bengaluru, lodged a complaint at the Basaveshwaranagar police station, alleging that Constable Siddegowda deceived her into a sexual relationship by promising marriage. When he later reneged on his commitment, the woman approached the police.
Following the complaint, Basaveshwaranagar police registered a case of rape and arrested the accused. He was subsequently produced before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Police officials confirmed that investigations are underway. Statements from the complainant and others connected to the case are being recorded, and further evidence is being collected.
The incident has sparked widespread concern, particularly as the accused is a serving police constable, entrusted with maintaining law and order. Legal circles and women’s rights activists have strongly condemned the alleged exploitation, calling for strict action if the charges are proven.
No official statement has been issued so far by the accused or his legal counsel. Authorities have assured that the case will be pursued in accordance with the law and that due process will be followed.
