India Is Not Nepal: Amit Shah Rules Out Gen Z-Led Uprising in India

Mumbai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday dismissed the possibility of a Gen Z–led uprising in India similar to the recent youth-driven protests that shook Nepal, saying the country’s deep-rooted democratic system prevents such unrest.
Speaking at NDTV’s Bihar Power Play event with Editor-in-Chief Rahul Kanwal, Shah said, “India is not Nepal. Our democratic roots are very strong. I don’t think a Gen Z protest is possible here.”
He praised India’s youth for their commitment to nation-building rather than rebellion. “The youth of our nation work very hard and contribute to the country’s development. I don’t think a Nepal-like protest is possible,” he added.
The Home Minister’s comments come amid widespread unrest in Nepal, where more than 70 people were killed in violent demonstrations in September. The protests—driven largely by young people—erupted after a temporary ban on social media and escalated into a wider movement against corruption and economic hardship. Protesters torched key government buildings, including the parliament and courts.
In the same conversation, Shah turned his attention to Bihar’s political landscape, warning voters against the Mahagathbandhan alliance. “The only thing that’s certain is the return of jungle raaj if people make the mistake of electing the Mahagathbandhan,” he cautioned.
The Home Minister’s remarks underscore the BJP’s broader message ahead of the upcoming Bihar elections: stability, strong governance, and faith in India’s democratic foundations.
