Harshvardhan Exits STK 2 After Mawra Hocane’s ‘AntiIndia’ Remarks

Mumbai: Actor Harshvardhan Rane has respectfully declined to be a part of ‘Sanam Teri Kasam 2’ amid the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, citing recent derogatory remarks made by his former co-star, Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane. The original film, which starred Rane and Hocane, was re-released in theatres this February, reigniting interest in the romantic drama.

Rane’s decision comes in response to Mawra’s critical comments against India following Operation Sindoor, a significant military strike launched by the Indian Armed Forces on May 7, targeting nine terror camps within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation was conducted in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives.

Taking to his Instagram story on Saturday, Rane expressed his gratitude for the opportunities the film provided but firmly stated his decision to exit the sequel if it involves the original cast. “While I am grateful for the experience, however, as things stand, and after reading the direct comments made about my country, I have made a decision to respectfully decline to be a part of Sanam Teri Kasam part 2 if there is any possibility of the previous cast being repeated,” he wrote.

In a follow-up post, Rane further addressed Hocane’s remarks, which she shared on her ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handle, calling the Indian operation a “cowardly attack.” Rane’s response reflected his strong stance on respecting national pride, stating, “I respect all artists and humans of this country, that country, Kenya and even Mars, but this kind of derogatory remarks about my country by anyone is unpardonable. Am okay with losing out on followers on Instagram, but won’t allow anyone to walk over the pride and upbringing. Standing by your country is good, but disrespectful, hateful remarks about other country is not.”

Hocane’s original post read, “Strongly condemn India’s cowardly attack on Pakistan… Innocent civilians have lost their lives… May Allah protect us all… may sense prevail… Ya Allah ho Ya Hafizo… #PakistanZindabad.”

Rane’s decision has sparked significant discussion on social media, with fans both supporting and questioning his move amid the heightened national sentiment. The actor, known for his strong connection with his audience, has often emphasized the importance of respect and mutual understanding in the global artistic community.

As tensions continue to simmer between the two nations, Rane’s stance has added a cultural layer to the ongoing geopolitical conflict, reflecting the complex relationship between art, national identity, and public sentiment.
