Giriraj Singh Accuses Mamata Banerjee of Acting Against Constitution, Sparks Fresh Political Row in Bengal

Mumbai: Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Saturday launched a sharp attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of acting against constitutional norms and alleging that she is attempting to “turn Bengal into Bangladesh” by encouraging infiltration and undermining democratic institutions.

Speaking to reporters in Begusarai, Singh questioned the unity of the opposition alliance while criticising the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo’s leadership. “Where is the Mahagathbandhan? They come together only during elections,” he said, adding that public sentiment in Bengal was turning against the Chief Minister.

“I have never seen a Chief Minister who forcibly takes away documents from the Enforcement Directorate. What was she trying to hide? Mamata Banerjee wants to hand over Bengal to infiltrators. If Bengal’s Hindus are to live without fear and the state is to be saved, Mamata Banerjee will have to be removed,” Singh alleged.

ED Accuses CM of Interfering in Probe

Singh’s remarks follow serious allegations made by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which accused Mamata Banerjee of obstructing an ongoing search operation in Kolkata. According to the agency, the Chief Minister entered the residential premises of Prateek Jain, director of political consultancy firm IPAC, during the search and allegedly took away key evidence, including physical documents and electronic devices.

In an official statement, the ED said its officers were conducting the operation “peacefully and professionally” until the arrival of Banerjee, accompanied by a large contingent of police personnel.

Mamata Hits Back, Targets Amit Shah and BJP Leaders

A day earlier, Mamata Banerjee had launched a counterattack, alleging that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari were linked to the coal smuggling case under investigation.

Addressing a public gathering, the Chief Minister claimed that proceeds from the alleged coal scam were routed to Amit Shah through Suvendu Adhikari. “Who gets the coal scam money? Amit Shah gets it. The money goes through Suvendu Adhikari,” Banerjee alleged, also naming BJP leader Jagannath Chattopadhyay as part of the alleged chain.

TMC Protests and Detentions in Delhi

Banerjee also condemned the detention of TMC Members of Parliament in Delhi, claiming they were “dragged mercilessly” while protesting against the ED raids and the Union Home Minister. She accused the central government of misusing investigative agencies to target political opponents.

“All agencies have been taken over. I challenge them — they came to power forcefully in Haryana and Bihar, and now they are trying to do the same in Bengal,” she said.

Allegations Against Election Commission

In a separate charge, the West Bengal Chief Minister raised concerns about the Election Commission, alleging manipulation of voter rights. Referring to an official in the Commission, she said, “If votes are being made to vanish, why should I remain silent? If voters’ rights are taken away, I will fight back.”

Political Temperature Rises in Bengal

The sharp exchange of allegations between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress has further escalated political tensions in West Bengal. With investigations ongoing and rhetoric intensifying, the state appears headed for a prolonged political confrontation ahead of upcoming electoral battles.
