From Records to Trophies: KL Rahul Sets Sights on Matching MS Dhoni’s Legacy

Mumbai: Delhi Capitals star batter KL Rahul has downplayed his latest personal milestone in the Indian Premier League (IPL), stating that surpassing legends like MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina in the all-time run charts is special, but not his ultimate goal.

Rahul recently produced a sensational 152-run knock during a clash against the Punjab Kings in New Delhi, a performance that propelled him to become the fifth-highest run-scorer in IPL history. Despite the achievement, the right-hander emphasised that team success outweighs individual records.

“I didn’t even realise I had gone past Mahi bhai on the IPL’s all-time run-scorers list. Honestly, the milestone I would love to match with MS Dhoni is his five IPL trophies,” Rahul said, highlighting his desire to emulate Dhoni’s championship-winning legacy with the Chennai Super Kings.

He added that while personal milestones validate hard work and consistency, winning titles remains the ultimate aim. “Cricket is a team sport. You want to win trophies and be part of successful sides. That has always been my goal,” he said.

Rahul also spoke about his strong connection with the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where he has consistently delivered strong performances, including against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Hailing from Karnataka, Rahul said the venue holds emotional significance for him. “I grew up there as a kid, watching players and dreaming of playing on that ground. Some stadiums just give you a good vibe and make you feel you’ll do well,” he explained, attributing his success at the venue to a natural psychological boost.

In the ongoing IPL season, Rahul has been the backbone of Delhi Capitals’ batting lineup, scoring 358 runs in eight matches at an impressive average of 51.14. His recent 57 off 34 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Bengaluru also played a key role in securing a six-wicket win for his side.

As Rahul continues his consistent run, his focus remains firmly on guiding his team to IPL glory rather than chasing individual accolades.
