Five-Time Champions Mumbai Indians Not Worried About Recent Form, Says Coach

Mumbai: The Mumbai Indians, one of the most successful teams in the history of the Indian Premier League, have endured a challenging phase in recent years. Despite sharing the record for most IPL titles (five) with the Chennai Super Kings, the franchise has not lifted the trophy since their 2020 triumph.

Over the past five seasons, Mumbai Indians have struggled to maintain their dominance. They have managed to qualify for the playoffs only twice and have finished at the bottom of the table on two occasions, in 2022 and 2024.

However, head coach Mahela Jayawardene remains unfazed by the team’s recent record. Speaking ahead of their clash against the Delhi Capitals, Jayawardene emphasised the significance of MI’s achievements and the competitive nature of the league.

He pointed out that winning five IPL titles is a remarkable accomplishment, especially when several teams like the Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants are yet to secure their maiden championship.

Jayawardene also highlighted the growing competitiveness of the IPL, noting that the presence of 10 teams makes the tournament even more challenging. Reflecting on MI’s recent seasons, he stated that the team has still been in contention, reaching the playoffs multiple times and creating opportunities to go further.

“In a competition like this, you have to take one game at a time and stick to the process. As a team, we know we have performed consistently over a long period,” he said.

Despite their recent struggles, Mumbai Indians continue to rely on their experience, legacy, and structured approach as they aim to return to winning ways in the ongoing season.
