Fatima Sana Shaikh Recalls Harrowing Experience of Being Assaulted After Confronting Molester

Mumbai: Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh recently opened up about a traumatic incident where she was physically assaulted after standing up to a man who touched her inappropriately in public.

In an interview with Hauterrfly, Fatima recalled, “Once, a man had touched me inappropriately, and I hit him. But he hit me back so hard that I fell. I only hit him because he touched me, but that pissed him off and he hit me to the point that I fell.”

The actress revealed that the shocking incident made her more cautious about how to react in such situations. “After that incident, I realised that we also have to check how to react. But look at the irony—something wrong is happening with us, and we only have to think about how to react to it,” she said.

Fatima also shared another unsettling encounter that occurred during the COVID-19 lockdown in Mumbai. “I was riding my bicycle wearing a mask when a tempo driver kept honking and making weird sounds at me. He followed me until I finally turned into my lane,” she recalled.

Highlighting the pervasiveness of such harassment, she added, “You only have to be a girl for it. It doesn’t matter if you’re a celebrity or a commoner.”

On the professional front, Fatima was recently seen in Metro…In Dino, directed by Anurag Basu, where she was paired opposite Ali Fazal. The film has received rave reviews from audiences and critics alike. Her latest film, Aap Jaisa Koi, co-starring R Madhavan, premiered on Netflix on Friday. The film explores a mature love story and a woman’s journey to take a stand for herself in a conservative family.
