‘Dhamaal 4’ Box Office Collection Day 3: Ajay Devgn Starrer Crosses Rs 90 Crore Worldwide Despite Mixed Reviews
Mumbai: Ajay Devgn’s comedy entertainer ‘Dhamaal 4’ witnessed a strong jump over its opening weekend, collecting an estimated Rs 65 crore net at the Indian box office in its first three days despite receiving mixed reviews from critics and audiences.
Featuring an ensemble cast including Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Jaaved Jaaferi, Anjali Anand, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Sanjay Mishra, the film had generated decent pre-release buzz through its trailer and songs before hitting theatres on Friday.
Strong Weekend Growth
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Dhamaal 4 opened with Rs 14 crore on Friday. The film witnessed significant growth over the weekend, collecting Rs 22.50 crore on Saturday and an estimated Rs 28.50 crore on Sunday.
This takes the film’s three-day domestic collection to Rs 65 crore net, while its gross collection in India stands at approximately Rs 78 crore.
Worldwide Collection Nears Rs 100 Crore
The comedy also registered a decent performance in overseas markets, earning around Rs 14 crore gross internationally during its opening weekend.
With this, Dhamaal 4 has amassed an estimated Rs 92 crore gross worldwide in just three days, inching closer to the coveted Rs 100 crore milestone.
Monday Test Crucial
Reportedly mounted on a budget of around Rs 200 crore, the film has made a respectable start but still has a long way to go before recovering its production cost.
Trade analysts believe the film’s performance on Monday will be crucial in determining its long-term box office trajectory. A stable hold during the weekdays could significantly improve its lifetime earnings.
Mixed Response from Critics
While audiences turned up over the weekend, the film has received mixed reviews.
Reviewing the film, The Free Press Journal awarded it 2 out of 5 stars, describing it as a loud and carefree entertainer that falls short on its biggest strength comedy.
The review noted that although performances by Jaaved Jaaferi and Sanjay Mishra provide some entertaining moments, they are not enough to elevate the treasure-hunt comedy.
The publication concluded that while longtime fans of the Dhamaal franchise may appreciate the nostalgic callbacks, many viewers could leave the theatre feeling that the film’s biggest missing element is the humour that made the earlier installments popular.
