Bihar Govt to Provide Jobs, Employment to 1 Crore Youths in Next 5 Years: CM Nitish Kumar

Mumbai: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday announced that the state government aims to provide jobs and employment opportunities to one crore youths over the next five years (2025–2030).
In a significant push towards skill development and self-employment, Kumar said the government will establish the Jananayak Karpuri Thakur Skill University, named in honour of Bharat Ratna awardee and former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur. The initiative comes ahead of the state assembly elections due later this year.
“For the next five years, we are setting a target to double the 2020–25 goal by providing government jobs and employment opportunities to one crore youths,” Kumar said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “To achieve this, employment opportunities will also be created in the private sector, particularly in industrial areas. A high-level committee is being constituted for this purpose,” he added.
Highlighting progress under his government, Kumar noted that 10 lakh youths have been given government jobs so far, while around 39 lakh people have been provided employment. He expressed confidence in meeting the target of over 50 lakh jobs by August 2025.
The CM underlined the role of the ‘Saat Nischay’ (Seven Resolves) programme in providing skill development training and self-employment opportunities for the state’s youth. “In the next five years, this programme will be expanded significantly,” he said.
Between 2005 and 2020, over 8 lakh government jobs were provided in Bihar. In 2020, under Saat Nischay-2, the government pledged 10 lakh government jobs and 10 lakh employment opportunities, later revising the target to 12 lakh government jobs and 38 lakh employment opportunities.
