BCB Seeks Stronger Cricket Ties With BCCI Amid Improving India-Bangladesh Relations

Mumbai: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formally expressed interest in strengthening cricketing ties with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), signalling a positive shift in bilateral sporting relations.

Nazmul Abedin Fahim, Director (Cricket Operations) of the BCB, confirmed that the board recently sent a letter to the BCCI as part of its regular communication with international cricket bodies. He stated that the correspondence highlighted upcoming bilateral commitments and explored opportunities for broader cooperation.

According to Fahim, the Indian men’s cricket team is scheduled to tour Bangladesh in September for a series, followed by Bangladesh’s women’s team visiting India. The BCB also proposed exploring additional avenues for reciprocal cricket collaborations between the two nations.

The outreach comes after recent tensions between the two cricket boards. Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders had signed Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. However, he was unable to participate after the BCCI withheld permission amid political objections from local groups, leading to friction between the two countries.

In the aftermath of the controversy, Bangladesh had boycotted the T20 World Cup hosted in India, further straining ties.

However, relations appear to be on the mend following political developments in Bangladesh. After the February 12 elections, the new government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken steps to improve diplomatic engagement with India.

As part of these efforts, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman is scheduled to visit India on April 7 and 8. With diplomatic ties gradually improving, cooperation in cricket is also expected to gain momentum, potentially opening a new chapter in India-Bangladesh sporting relations.
