Alia Bhatt Rumoured for Cameo in Tumbbad 2; Buzz Grows Around Special Appearance

Mumbai: Speculation is mounting over Alia Bhatt making a special appearance in Tumbbad 2, the highly anticipated follow-up to the 2018 cult hit Tumbbad. While there has been no official confirmation, industry buzz suggests the actor could feature in a pivotal cameo.

According to reports, the makers are keen to include a strong cameo that enhances the narrative, with Bhatt being a top choice for the role. Sources indicate her appearance, if finalised, could serve as a key turning point in the film’s storyline.

The sequel is currently being shot in Mumbai, with elaborate sets constructed in Madh Island. Reports suggest that Bhatt may be required for a brief two-day schedule, carefully planned to align with her busy calendar.

The timing of the shoot is said to coincide with her international commitments, including a likely appearance at the Met Gala 2026 on May 4. Given her packed schedule, there are also unverified claims that a body double could be used for certain patchwork scenes.

Actor-producer Sohum Shah had officially announced Tumbbad 2 in 2024, years after the original film gained a cult following for its atmospheric storytelling and striking visuals. While the first instalment was directed by Rahi Anil Barve, the sequel will be helmed by Adesh Prasad.

The new chapter is expected to further explore the dark mythology of Hastar, the cursed deity central to the original narrative. Alongside Shah, the film will also feature Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a significant role, adding to the intrigue around the project.

Tumbbad 2 is slated for a theatrical release on December 3, 2027, and is being produced under Sohum Shah Films in collaboration with Pen Studios.

On the work front, Bhatt was last seen in Jigra and has a strong lineup ahead, including Alpha backed by Yash Raj Films and Love & War directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

While the cameo remains unconfirmed, the buzz alone has heightened anticipation for Tumbbad 2, which is already shaping up to be one of the most awaited films in the coming years.
