AIMIM Corporator Sahar Shaikh Spotted at Wankhede Stadium Amid Fake Caste Certificate Row

Mumbai: Amid intensifying scrutiny over allegations of submitting a fraudulent caste certificate, AIMIM corporator Sahar Shaikh was recently seen attending an IPL match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, despite reportedly being “not reachable” over the past few days.
Shaikh shared a video on her Instagram story from the stadium during the match between the Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings. In the clip, she appeared wearing a shirt, green cap, and a face mask, posing for the camera even as the controversy surrounding her continues to escalate.

Allegations of Fake Caste Certificate
Shaikh is currently under investigation for allegedly using a forged caste certificate to contest the Thane Municipal Corporation elections. The issue has sparked a political controversy, raising serious questions about the legitimacy of her candidature and eligibility.

The case has also drawn attention due to her past association with senior leader Jitendra Awhad of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), under whom she was earlier seen as a protégé.
Investigators have flagged multiple irregularities, including jurisdictional concerns. Shaikh, who is reportedly a resident of Thane, is said to have obtained the caste certificate from Mumbai, prompting questions over procedural validity. Authorities have also pointed out missing official elements in the document, such as the ‘Government of Maharashtra’ header and the absence of the Sub-Divisional Officer’s signature.
Document Discrepancies and Legal Concerns
Further scrutiny has revealed inconsistencies in supporting documents, particularly those linked to her father, Yunus Shaikh. There are also claims that a caste certificate from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, may have been used during the application process.
Officials have additionally cited non-compliance with legal requirements, including the absence of ‘Sample 10’ documentation, which is mandated under provisions of the Migration Act, 2000.
Current Legal Status
During a hearing on March 18, Yunus Shaikh did not appear before authorities, citing health issues, though his legal team submitted relevant documents. A subsequent hearing was held on March 23, and the final outcome is now expected to depend on the findings of the inquiry report.
If the allegations are proven, Shaikh could face immediate disqualification from her post as corporator, along with possible legal action for allegedly providing false information to authorities.
As of now, Sahar Shaikh has not issued an official statement regarding the controversy, but she is expected to address the media soon to present her response.
