72nd National Film Awards: Mammootty, Kartik Aaryan Win Best Actor; Yami Gautam Bags Best Actress for Article 370
Bramayugam, Chandu Champion and Article 370 emerge among the biggest winners as the National Film Awards honour the best of Indian cinema for 2024
Mumbai: Actors Mammootty and Kartik Aaryan were honoured with the Best Actor award, while Yami Gautam won the Best Actress award at the 72nd National Film Awards announced on Saturday. Mammootty was recognised for his acclaimed performance in Bramayugam, Kartik Aaryan received the honour for Chandu Champion, and Yami Gautam was awarded Best Actress for her role in Article 370.
The 72nd National Film Awards recognise films certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) during the 2024 calendar year.
Jury Finalises Winners Across Categories
An 11-member jury, headed by acclaimed filmmaker Jayaraj, selected the winners across the feature film categories. Jayaraj, who had previously served on the National Film Awards jury in 2012, led the panel responsible for evaluating this year’s entries.
The awards continue to celebrate excellence in filmmaking, acting and technical achievements across Indian cinema.
Malayalam Cinema Continues Strong Run
Malayalam cinema once again emerged as one of the strongest performers at the National Film Awards following a remarkable year for the industry.
Bramayugam, starring Mammootty, received widespread critical acclaim and was among the standout films recognised this year.
Strong Competition Across Film Industries
The competition featured several acclaimed films from across the country.
Among the Hindi releases were Article 370, Srikanth, and Chandu Champion, while Tamil cinema was represented by Maharaja, Meiyazhagan, and Amaran.
Telugu cinema also had a strong presence with films such as Kalki 2898 AD and Lucky Baskhar. Other notable entries included Committee Kurrollu, Mithya, and 35 – Chinna Kadha Kaadu.
